Regardless of how it's delivered, acupuncture works. Acupuncture doesn't have to be complex in order to be effective, but the treatments build on each other and consistent treatment over time yields the best results.
Both community and private acupuncture treatments are effective and have numerous benefits. At HRHW, we have adopted a well-rounded approach to providing acupuncture treatments in both settings and we always make sure to address the wellness of the whole you - your body, mind, and spirit.

General Overview
Community Acupuncture:
Community acupuncture sessions are focused on the modality of acupuncture alone and primarily utilize points on the front of the body. In these treatments, we use some of the most powerful acupuncture points located on the arms, legs, ears, head, and abdomen. At our clinic, community sessions also include the choice of aromatherapy and the use of an infrared heat lamp. During treatment, patients remain fully clothed while resting on comfortable zero-gravity recliners in our peaceful community room. Although our consult takes place in a private area sectioned off from the treatment space, the treatments themselves take place in a calming, cozy space with other people in recliners. We have a small community room of 4 chairs.
Many people find it comforting to have others around them while being treated. Being in a room with others creates a collective healing energy that enhances the power of each individual’s treatment and allows families and friends to receive treatments together. Because more people can be treated at a time with a community style set-up, we are able to charge less.
At our clinic, we offer a pay-what-you-can sliding scale for community acupuncture sessions. No proof of income required, no questions asked. Beyond the sliding scale, we are always willing to work with people to get the acupuncture care they need and never want money to be a barrier to receiving quality care. We will figure something out so anyone who wants and needs care can receive it.
Private Acupuncture:
Private sessions are one-on-one with the practitioner for the entire duration of the treatment and take place lying on a massage table. Acupuncture points on both the front and back of the body are used. In these sessions, multiple modalities are implemented to enhance treatments. In private sessions, we are able to go deeper and address areas directly with different techniques such as moxibustion, cupping, gua sha, and massage.

Acupuncture
Room Set-Up
-
Community acupuncture is provided in a cozy room with four recliners. You will be resting with your needles next to other people who are resting with their needles. In this environment, the restful healing energy in the room is amplified. There will be relaxing music playing, aromatherapy, infrared heat lamps, and cool or warm weighted eye pillows available. Please feel free to bring earplugs or headphones.
-
Private acupuncture is provided in a room with only one table. Only you and the practitioner are in the treatment space for maximum one-on-one time. There is a heated table with pillows, bolsters, and infrared lights to ensure your comfort.
Practitioner Attention
-
One of the biggest differences in community vs private acupuncture is that of practitioner attention and focus.
-
In private practice, there is more time to focus attention on each person as there is over an hour reserved for one patient. This allows us to spend more time focusing on individual cases and employ a wider variety of skills and techniques in treatments.
-
In community acupuncture, there is 20 minutes to check in (40 minutes for first visits), insert needles/apply magnets, and get you comfortable. Then, people rest as long as they like while attention is switched to the next person. People typically like to acu-nap for 30-60 minutes with their needles in community sessions.
Rates
-
As expected, private acupuncture is more expensive per session. This higher cost is associated with being able to provide treatment modalities beyond acupuncture.
-
One of the main goals of the community style is to increase accessibility to acupuncture and eliminate the barrier of cost by sharing space. This low cost form of acu is great when you want to be treated with friends and family together, for complex cases that need to be seen more frequently until maintenance is reached, and/or to supplement your current treatment schedule.
-
Community treatments are on a pay-what-you-can sliding scale of $30-50 for follow ups and $40-60 for initial consults.
-
For parties of 4 , we offer a happy hour of NADA ear acupuncture at a rate of $100 total for everyone ($25/person). NADA is great for stress, PTSD, addiction, anxiety, depression, ADHD, brain fog, insomnia, and withdrawal symptoms.
